Q & A

Frequently Asked Questions

You will find the answers to many, if not most, of the questions you may have about participation in a study below. If you still have questions, please send us an email, or call us at (417) 831-2048.

Q: May I bring snacks and/or medications with me when I do the study?

A: All food is catered in by QPS Bio-Kinetic. It is important to eat only the food served to you in the clinic. Please do not bring any food or medications (unless otherwise specified). Any of these items you bring in will be stored until the end of the study. Bottled water is allowed, as long as the seal on the bottle has not been broken and all water restrictions are followed.

Q: Are visitors allowed?

A: Visitors are not allowed, at any time, except to bring in clean clothing, movies, personal care items, etc. There is to be no physical contact with anyone outside of the clinic during in-house confinement.

Q: Is smoking allowed?

A: The clinic is a non-smoking facility. Smoking is allowed on certain studies, but only in designated outside areas and at designated times.

Q: Are there activities for me to do while participating in a study?

A: There are televisions with satellite, VCRs and DVD players, a pool table, games, books and magazines in the clinic. You may also bring your own books, magazines, movies, hobbies and games. Exercise is limited because it can affect the absorption rate of study medications.

Q: Can I bring a computer?

A: If space permits, yes. We have free wireless internet access as well.

Q: How should I dress?

A: Dress in comfortable clothing. Socks or shoes must be worn at all times.

Q: Do I have to go to bed at a certain time?

A: The designated time for lights out is 11:00 p.m., unless there is a scheduled blood draw after that time.

Q: Can I continue to donate blood or plasma before a study?

A: Donations can usually be made up to 30 days prior to the start of a study, but depending on the study specifics, you may not be able to contribute for up to 90 days before some studies begin. This is for your safety because of the repeated blood draws required on most studies.

Q: When and why do I have to stop consuming alcohol and caffeine products?

A: You usually need to stop consumption of both approximately 48 hours prior to checking in and during your confinement. We usually require abstaining from alcohol and caffeine due to the possibility of interactions or interference in absorption of medications.

Q: May I continue to take over-the-counter products such as aspirin, vitamins and herbal products?

A: Most studies require that you take no medications for at least 14 days prior to checking in, unless otherwise specified.

Q: Is there a urine drug screen?

A: Yes. There is a drug screen at screening for almost all studies. There is also usually one at each check in. And yes, we do typically test for everything.

Q: What do I bring to stay in the clinic?

A: Bring all personal care items, soap, towel, shampoo, clean clothing, books, magazines, etc. Bedding is provided, however, you may bring extra bedding if so desired. Showers are available for your use.

Q: How often can I participate in studies?

A: Most studies require at least 30 days between the last time you received a study medication to the next time you can participate in a new study.
